All About Bracegirdle
by Joan C.

NAME: Anthony James Bracegirdle.

LIVING ARRANGEMENT: A rather cramped cabin on the Indefatigable

FAVORITE PASTIME: Any game of chance, particularly Acey-deucy with my
friend Thomas Bowles

FAVORITE BOOK: Tom Jones and Tristram Shandy. I love a good laugh.

THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD IS: Sailing on calm seas under bright skies.

THE WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD IS: Losing men in battle. I feel
responsible.

FAVORITE SMELLS: The sea, a good meal cooking. My wife's perfume.

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU THINK WHEN YOU WAKE IN THE MORNING: What
adventures will I face today? How can I best serve my Captain, my country,
and my King -- in that order. I have met the King and the poor fellow is
quite mad.

BATTLE: SCARY OR EXCITING: I am usually too occupied to give it a thought
one way or another until it is over. Then I am grateful to have survived,
and grieving for the men who have not.

FAVORITE FOODS: I never met a meal I didn't like. Save for maggots in the
biscuits. Though I did turn down a ragout of Gibraltar Ape offered once.

CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA: Evidently, I am not partial to one of the other.
Preferably both.

STORMS, COOL OR SCARY: Awe inspiring

FAVORITE DRINK: Fine aged port, or brandy.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THE WORLD, WHAT WOULD IT BE: I would
have the excitement of my naval career, but without the grief and anxiety.
And no more young men would die in vain.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD IT BE: I would be
more slender, (sigh). Like Hornblower.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE: Oh yes, rather more than once. But I have been
happily married for twenty years.

IS THE GLASS HALF EMPTY OR HALF FULL: Always half full, though I often
wonder what has happened to the other half.

WHAT'S IN YOUR ANXIETY CLOSET: Failure.

WHAT'S YOUR LOFTIEST DREAM: .To someday have a command of my own.

WHAT'S YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE: Being maimed in battle, being a failure.

WHAT DO YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOU THAT YOU FEEL THEY DON'T: That I
truly desire a command of my own.

WHAT OTHER HH CHARACTER WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ANSWER THIS QUESTIONNAIRE:
Edward Pellew -- a man I admire as a friend and as a Captain. And of
course, my friend, Thomas Bowles, our Sailing Master.
