LIVING ARRANGEMENT:Currently, the physician's berth aboard the HMS Indefatigable

FAVORITE PASTIME:Enjoying a good cigar on the taffrail and arguing religion with Mr. Hornblower.

FAVORITE BOOK: For enjoyment, any of the classics. For inspiration and comfort, there is nothing second to the word of the Lord.

THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD IS: Knowing that one of my patients will recover and become strong, whether their wounds are physical or spiritual.

THE WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD IS: When the hoped-for miracle does not come.

FAVORITE SMELLS: Grass after a spring rain, the smell of the sea, and Spanish lavender.

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU THINK WHEN YOU WAKE IN THE MORNING: How can I help today? Also, are my shoes still under my bunk, or did they roll over by the door again?

BATTLE: SCARY OR EXCITING: Always frightening, because of the work I must do.

FAVORITE FOODS: I'm partial to several Spanish dishes which unfortunately can never be gotten aboard a ship at sea! But failing that, well-prepared beef or chicken is always a favorite.

CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA: What a delightful question Two wonderful choices to contemplate. I will say chocolate.

STORMS, COOL OR SCARY: They are testaments to the power and strength of God, but then the same can be said of sharks. Amazing, but best viewed at a distance.

FAVORITE DRINK: A good mellow brandy,,and freshly ground strong coffee.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THE WORLD, WHAT WOULD IT BE: That my surgical services would no longer be required, because there would be no more war.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT WOULD IT BE: I would try to worry less, and turn my concerns over to God more often.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE: Yes, with my wife, but that is too intimate to discuss here.

IS THE GLASS HALF EMPTY OR HALF FULL: There have been times when it has been very low indeed. But now, thanks to Captain Pellew and the fine crew I serve with, it is full to overflowing.

WHAT'S IN YOUR ANXIETY CLOSET: The fear that I can never do enough.

WHAT'S YOUR LOFTIEST DREAM:To complete my duty to my God and my country, and then retire to my house by the sea and have a quiet practice there for the rest of my life.

WHAT'S YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE: That someone came to me for help, and I lost them to the abyss.

WHAT DO YOU WISH PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOU THAT YOU FEEL THEY DON'T: I am an excellent fencer and dancer.
